Here are some common questions we're often asked about whisky casks.
We consult, source, manage and sell whisky casks for collecting and investing.
This includes services such as bottling, regauging, storage, insurance, and changing cask types.
Yes! Each cask we source will include whisky from popular distilleries to niche, boutique independent distilleries.
Our clients purchase casks for a variety of reasons, however the most common reason is typically to own a physical asset that matures over time. Scotch whisky will appreciate in value as it ages and unlike bottles, whisky will age within casks.
Other reasons include an investment for children, celebrating milestones or simply for the love of whisky.
Casks can vary in size from octaves, which are 45L all the way to a puncheon which are 500L. The most common sizes we find are Hogsheads which are around 230 - 250L, which translates to around 328 - 357 bottles (700ml).
All scotch whisky casks will be stored in Scotland in HMRC-approved bonded warehouses.
Scotch casks are often best left undisturbed to mature until it's time to bottle, however we understand it's important to check in once in awhile. This can include a cask regauge, drawing of samples, changing the wood in which it is maturing (known as a re-rack) or even visiting the cask in Scotland.
At the end of the day casks can be more than simply an investment - draw a bottle or two to gift to family and friends!
Scotch casks come in all shapes, sizes, wood, and brands. For this reason, it's difficult to provide a standard price for casks. Generally speaking, more established distilleries will often command a higher price. Same goes for age, the older the whisky inside the barrel, the higher the price.
